I have fallen in love with Batwoman since the new 52 began. She is not really apart of the Batfamily…like at all. Yet she still holds to his morals and operates in gotham. Many times she feels like an alternate version of Batman. It’s fun.
Sadly for me the past couple issues haven’t felt right to me. Even before that I was struggling with the book. As much as Batwoman and Wonder Woman together sounds like a lot of fun…for me it lost what I loved about the book. This issue, for me, finally brought back all I love. Kate and Maggie are back together. Batwoman is getting ready to go on a mission that is going to be extremely difficult(and finally she is BACK IN GOTHAM) and she does something crazy…injects herself with fear toxin to prove how sorry she is for doing just that to Maggie. It was such a WTF moment and yet totally fits Kate’s personality and the overall vibe of the book. I actually loved it.
Batwoman tells the story arcs slow. Sometimes too slowly. So I’m exited that next issue is going to bring in some major butt kicking and take the action up a couple notches. The art is always so beautiful that the fight scenes in Batwoman are unlike any found in any comic out there. Batwoman is a special treat and I hope the book stays in this sweet spot for a while now!
