THE SHOWS Grandfathered We're what, 2 or 3 eps in? I guess I was wrong. John Stamos's hotness isn't enough. The show isn't bad, it's just a bit boring and a bit predictable with an "awwwww" moment at the end of every episode. This week, Jimmy and Gerald tried a male bonding night to get to know each other better. A few minutes into their awkward night together, they were as bored as the viewers were. What do 2 guys do when they're bored? Drink scotch and smoke cigars of course. There was some tap dancing and some ice cream, and even some chit chat about the only woman Jimmy's ever loved, Gerald's Mom. This big news inspired Gerald to hop on a bus (Gus) and head over to his baby mama's place to proclaim his love for her. Of course it didn't go smoothly which was good because I can't stand her and hope Gerald and the producers come to their senses soon and kill her character off. The way I figure it, more storylines for Gerald and Jimmy to bond over father/son double dates with her out of the picture may help things along. Additional problem…the non-Jimmy restaurant storylines don't seem to fit or make sense. There's a disconnect. Did we care at all about the bartender at the restaurant? I think there needs to be some adjustments made to this one. Forget the restaurant, kill the baby mama and focus on the family becoming a family. Still stereotypical, formulaic sitcomy stuff, but better than it is now. Hate to say this, but it won't shock me if this one gets the ax.
The Grinder
Unlike Grandfathered, The Grinder, is hilarious, different, unpredictable, laugh outloud funny and REALLY well written. Fred Savage is ALMOST stealing the show from Rob Lowe. It's tough to type that because Rob is SO damn good and SO damn hot and their chemistry is amazing but Fred's the glue that holds this entire show and the premise together. Here, the two storylines, work together perfectly. I love how old Grinder episodes are woven into the story so we can really see what Dean's character was like and why Dean is the guy he is today. This week, when one of the kids deleted Ray Donovan from the DVR and neither would come clean, it brought up childhood memories of when Dean broke a window and blamed Stu, a lie that continued on to present day. When Todd, the Martin Short as Jiminy Glick look-a-like, came clean about being the accidental office mole and when Lizzie came clean about Ray Donovan, Dean was inspired to come clean also. I'm honestly not doing the episode justice. Note to the writers, and to Deb and Stu, Ray Donovan is available On Demand and a million times a week after the first run ep airs so there's really no excuse to miss an episode. Loved Dean's stance against DVR's for ruining the "traditional ratings model" too funny.Best Time Ever
Seeeee I knew that Best Time Ever would just feel better at 8pm. I blew off the past few weeks of 10pm shows and yes, it's still that AGT cheesy feel, but at 8pm it works. Feels right for the family and NPH seems to have gotten his rhythm down. Tell me this weeks guest announcer for a few bonus points. This week NPH pranked Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie keeping things in the NBC family. The ageless Susan Lucci helped out reading an audience members diary while NPH and Nicole re-enacted her schoolgirl crushes and mortified her. Taking the mortification up a notch, NPH brought out all 3 of the crushes for a live super awkward moment. At least she won a trip to the Dominican Republic where she can drink enough Pina Colada's to forget it all really happened. The very old looking B52's performed "Love Shack" for the Sing-a-Long and some viewers in Memphis risked their life on a 6 foot slippery slide to win a trip to Australia. Best part of the show is the "End of the Show Show" when NPH proved there's nothing he can't do. This week, he did one of those strength gymnastic things, walked on a tightrope of fire and then blew fire out of his mouth. Is there ANYTHING this guy can't or won't do? 8pm...this show works. 7pm on a Sunday night would be a perfect home for this one. Think about it NBC.Below Deck
The crew was given a daycation at a really cool looking spot in the Bahamas called Lubbers Landing. They threw on their thongsuits, grabbed some cocktails and blew off some steam. Everyone was having a blast swimming, surfing poledancing (pretty impressive skills I might add) and of course Dane drank way too much got totally inebriated, and out of control and got into it with Eddie who had to call Captain Lee in the middle of the night and have him removed from the island. Again, no cameras on the Captain so no idea what he was doing alone on the Eros all night. Does make you wonder though, doesn't it? In addition to Eddie and Dane going head to head, Kate and Leon went at it again too. Leon's a d*ck. The new guests specifically asked for healthy stuff and Leon dismissed their request. Of course for the final night, he redeemed himself but when so much money is on the line, why NOT make the guests happy? These new guests were boring. Thankfully, Rocky livened things up with her mermaid suit. Not sure where she stored that thing in her tiny bunk, but okay it made for great TV. I lost a bit of respect for Eddie. Grossed me out a bit knowing that he and Rocky were soiling the laundry room together. Hope Emile doesn't find out that Eddie's good mood was due to a midnight load of laundry with his girl.THE OTHER STUFF
-I haven't loved the first 2 weeks of SNL. Miley was okay, Amy Schumer wasn't great, I of course am looking forward to this week when Tracy Morgan leaves the Kings parking lot in Cresskill NJ and heads back to 30 Rock after all he's been through, but now…11/7 can't get here fast enough. Trump's hosting SNL. Not sure how he's allowed to do this, I'm sure NBC's crack legal team found a loophole or something. If I remember from my local buying political days correctly, all candidates must get "equal time" so does that mean all candidates are hosting SNL?
-Totally forgot to post this James Corden "Take a Break segment from Monday." It's long, 9 minutes-ish but he's just the funniest. Watch while you're eating your breakfast or having your coffee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwvsFeeixco

Wednesday's Trivia Question: -Denzel Washington's going to direct an episode of Grey's Anatomy this season. While he's the director on this hospital show, can you name the hospital themed show he was once in. The only clue I'll give you is that the show ran from 1982-1988
