THE SHOWS Below Deck
I was really psyched when Bravo renewed Below Deck. I can't imagine working on a massive yacht, catering to wealthy wackos, living in a tiny bunk with family and friends thousands of miles away. Sure the scenery is beautiful but it's an odd life that obviously gets old fast. Plus what about seasickness? The good news is that some of my faves from last season are back. Captain Lee, super crazy Kat, super hot Eddie and Chef Ben. The new yacht, Ohana, showed up on Virgin Gorda a complete mess. It literally looked like a fraternity used the yacht for a rush party or something. The team cleaned it up and got ready for a group of really classy (NOT) southern guests. First a trip to the supermarket where they spent $4471 bucks on food for the first charter. This is where we first met new deckhand, Andrew. This guy has zero experience, seemed like a complete moron and yet, Georgia, the main guest on the boat, took a liking to him and invited him to dinner. Of course Captain Lee wouldn't permit that, so he took a seat next to Georgia who got wasted and went a bit too far with our beloved Captain. Super AWKWARD! Also awkward was the guests aversion to gourmet food. I thought Ben was going to freak out when he heard the words "chicken fingers." Georgia may be wealthy enough to charter a yacht for a few days, but she and her friends seemed like white trash with money to me. Everyone's fine so far, but from what I can tell, tons of drama on the high seas is coming our way soon and I'm really looking forward to it.
20/20
I rarely watch the news magazines, but I'm sure, like all of you, I spent a lot of yesterday reading about Robin Williams' suicide. 20/20 ran a special Robin Williams tribute episode last night so I bagged Tyrant and Finding Carter and watched. I did learn a few things that I either didn't know about Robin Williams or knew and had forgotten over the years. Robin went to Julliard, was BFF's with Christopher Reeves and partied with John Belushi the night before he died. Robin didn't graduate from Julliard, but he did donate a full scholarship every year and one year, Oscar nominee, Jessica Chastain was a recipient of this scholarship. We all of course remember him as Mork, but did you know that at its peak 60 million people tuned in to watch Mork & Mindy each week? Did you know that Josh Charles from The Good Wife was in Dead Poets Society? Name 2 more actors who started out as Robin's students in that movie.
4th and Loud
Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from Kiss own an arena football team. Who knew? L.A. Kiss isn't the greatest name for a big scary football team, but they're banking on the name to elevate not just their team but the league in general. Jon Bon Jovi couldn't do it, and from the looks of this show, I don't think they'll be able to do it either. Never thought I'd say this about anything with Gene Simmons in it, but this show was boring. Gene and Paul are a small part of the show, it's really about the coach and the team. The narrator's voice put me to sleep and while some of the players stories are compelling, there was just something missing across the board. No season pass for me. Sorry.
THE OTHER STUFF -I guess it's a good news/good news story for Ross Matthews? Sort of. His solo late night show on E! was cancelled, BUT, he's joining Maria Menounos and Jason Kennedy to host Live from E! Maybe E! thinks Ross would be less annoying if he's part of a group?
-Hey Veronica Mars fans, you're in luck. A new web series called Play it Again, Dick on CW Seed will premiere on 9/15 with 8 episodes centered around Dick Casablancas a character from the show. I've never seen Veronica Mars, but I love Kristen Bell, maybe I should add this one to the list also?
-It's been a while since I've had anything great to post from my FBFF, Jimmy Fallon. His show last night was packed with some great moments but I could only find the video for the awesome House of Cue Cards skit below. If you didn't watch the entire show last night, it may be a good one to check out. Jimmy paid and emotional tribute to Robin Williams and his ALS bucket challenge was enjoyable too. Jimmy passed his nomination to our J…E…T…S…can't wait to see their response. Anyway…enjoy House of Cue Cards.
