Being Sotally Tober

By Rohit Dassani

Sotally Tober has recently opened its second outlet on Residency Road after their grand success of its Koramangala outlet. The place is huge and cannot be missed from outside due to its impressive art work. The décor is rustic with a lot of use of iron and wood, the whole place was buzzing with Christmas decoration when we visited. They even have seating arrangements inside and outside. You have options to sit in high chairs or normal chains. Everything here is up side down to make it look visually appealing.

We tried some of their signature cocktails like the Coco Velvet. As the name suggests it was a concoction of coconut rum with chocolate liquor with a hint of spices and herbs. It is served with a smoked cinnamon on top. The taste was simply amazing and it was super smooth like velvet. Don’t miss this out! Next, we had the Organic Caipiroska made from Organic jaggery with vanilla vodka and lime. The taste of the jaggery came out beautifully with the subtle taste of lime. Lastly, we tried their Twisted Daiquiri, a mix of three types of liquor with orange, chillies and bitters. It had all the possible flavors of sweet, sour and bitter.

When it comes to food you can taste a variety of continental and Indian food here like the #SoTo Mushroom on Toast. Stir fried mushrooms are topped on a crunchy buttered toast with shallots and garlic sautéed in white wine. It was creamy and garlicy. Next, came the Broccoli and corn Cigars. These Crispy fried cheesy broccoli and corn spring roll are served with sweet and spicy mango relish. The combination of the rolls with mango was an explosion of flavors. The Corn Fritters were deep fried spicy corn and potato fritters served with sriracha mayonnaise.

We even tried their Upinakai Paneer Tikka, the paneer are covered in a spicy marination with  mango pickle stuffed inside, it is served with mint coriander chutney. The smoky taste of the tandoor had sipped inside, and the taste of mango pickle gave it a tangy outlook. Lastly, we had their Vegetable Seekh Kebab – the mixed vegetable seekh are cooked in the tandoor and is served with mint coriander chutney and onion salad. The taste could have been better.

On the main course we tried different Indian and continental dishes. The Grilled Paneer Steak is made of a Chimichurri marinated paneer with parmesan cream poured over it, sautéed broccoli and Spanish rice is served on the side. The taste of the parmesan cream was out of the world and this was a package deal. The Grilled Vegetable Quesadilla are stuffed with grilled bell peppers, cheese and tangy taco sauce. This is also served with Spanish rice, sour cream and pico de gallo (salsa) on the side. Loved the Quesadilla as the tortilla was grilled to perfection. Lastly, we tried their Palak Paneer, the paneer in served in a thick creamy spinach gravy with cumin, garlic and served with crispy bhindi and tandoori roti. Amazing is just an under statement! Do try this!

When it comes to desserts, Sotally Tober has some great ones. The #SoTo Carrot Halwa is one of the best Indian fusion desserts that we have tried so far. The carrot halwa with raisins and cashews is served with vanilla icecream and whiskeyed rabdi on top. The combination was too tempting as we ordered one more. The #SoTo Chocolate Mousse, this rum infused dark chocolate mousse is served with dehyderabted orange. The combination of chocolate and orange is a well balanced one. And we also tried their Chocolate brownie with icecream, the taste was great as the brownie was filled with walnuts.

Overall, Sotally Tober is a great place with a well balanced menu be it cocktails, food or even desserts.
