Beginner Photography Tips.

I've been obsessed with taking pictures for as long as I can remember. I've talked about it before, and even thought about starting my own photography business down here in Georgia. But now that I have a new job that I'm really hoping leads to more as the years go on, I don't think that's going to be happening anytime soon.

BUT, that doesn't mean I'm going to give up one of my favorite hobbies! Michelle and I have put together a list of things you can do to get started in photography. Hobby or profession, these are things you'll need to do to learn the ropes regardless:
Invest in a nice camera. I personally use a Nikon... why? Because that's what my husband bought me. The Nikon and Canon battle is real my friends, so do your research and find out what you're looking for. It doesn't have to be top of the line and in my opinion, yes the body of the camera is important but the lenses are where it's at.
Learn how to shoot in manual. There's nothing I hate more than people using a flash or shooting in auto when they have this amazing camera that does beautiful things. Watch You Tube videos, get books from the library, or take a class! ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture will be your best friend...
Play around. You don't turn into an expert overnight and I'm sure even the most professional photographers will tell you they are still learning. But try different locations, different time of day, different subjects, etc and see what happens!

Bring your camera with you everywhere you can. This is something that I am definitely trying to work on myself. The more places that you take your camera, and the more pictures that you take, the more great photographs you will be able to snap! I even brought my camera with me to the tornado shelter the other night and snapped pictures of my dog with my friend's little boy!
Don't hesitate to take an online photography course. I took a beginners course on Ed2go.com and really enjoyed it. I do believe that it helped me tremendously and really hope to take a course through the New York Institute of Photography when I have the time and money to do so! (Samantha has actually taken that class so if you have questions... talk to her!)
Practice. Practice. Practice. I know this is cliche to say and super obvious, but so so true. You cannot get any better at something that you don't work on.
What tips do you have when it comes to photography?
