«When we visited the Ippostasio Estate, we knew that it was the perfect venue full of flowers and sparkling lights. The garden was so beautiful we didn’t need much more decoration. It already had all our favorites bougainvillea, lemon trees, roses and so many flowers! We kept the colors simple to complement this, mostly white roses and lisianthus with pale pink and peach accents. But we wanted something a little more fun, so we also added a little fuchsia! We loved how the bright pink and white reminded us of summer adventures in the islands, especially with the bridesmaids in blue dresses like the sea and sky. The estate’s church is in an olive grove, which gave us the perfect theme as olive trees are such an important symbol for Athens, and for us. Our wedding officiant (the wonderful deputy mayor, a family friend) made this a feature of the ceremony, talking about the mythology and history of olives in Greek culture, and made olive wreaths for our koumpara to join our hands together. We wanted our wedding to honor both countries, so we included British and Greek traditions. The guests threw rice but also confetti – flower petals, which the bride was gathering from the family’s garden in Athens for a year before the wedding. The bride’s mother read a traditional British wedding blessing, and during dinner there were speeches by the couple’s fathers and koumparoi. Our favorite detail was the wedding favors. As well as the traditional koufeta, we had a small treat for each guest on the table – a local Tsipouro provided by the groom’s father. The bride’s sister is an artist and calligrapher, and she hand-painted the names of each guest on their gift. It was the most stressful task, as there were a lot of last-minute changes – and of course with a Greek wedding there were many guests! But it was a wonderful detail, as it helped the guests to find their seats but also gave them a bespoke gift which felt more personal.» the bride shared with us.

«I found a lot of inspiration on Love4Weddings, especially from the real weddings. There were so many beautiful styles, which gave us lots of ideas to explore. »

«There were so many special moments, but what we enjoyed most was the party – dancing and celebrating with our family and friends! We had a mix of music (traditional dances, modern Greek and international hits) so there was something for everyone to enjoy. This was our favorite part as all the plans and events were done, so we could just relax and enjoy ourselves. Later in the night, our friends used the table flowers to create an atmosphere like the bouzoukia, showering us with flower petals while we danced under the stars. »

«My wedding dress was ivory with a hint of blush pink, which felt perfect – classic but modern. The tulle skirt was full and romantic, but very light so I felt free to move and dance. The showstopper was the custom ombre pearl and crystal beading on the bodice and straps. It sparkled beautifully in the day and looked magical under the lights at night! It was the perfect fit for our enchanted wedding.»

The brides advice: «Do the important things early, like the venue, but don’t rush the details – it can be very overwhelming to have so many decisions all at once. Give yourself time to enjoy the process and figure out your own style, don’t worry if it doesn’t all fit a typical ‘theme’, the theme is you and your love! It’s also important to choose vendors you trust. We were so grateful to have amazing people to support us. Marilia at Ippostasio is a superstar who can make anything possible! And Laoura and Pavel from LP events were the best, helping us to stay calm and capturing all the beautiful moments which we can treasure for years to come. »
