Hi all,
As you all know, I am a massive fan of mixing the contemporary with vintage patterns – If I had my way I would be living in a classic 1940′s house filled floor to ceiling with flowers and antiques. As this may make me seem a little vintage crazy, then I have learnt to scale back and just add hints of pattern throughout my home. One of my personal favorites is china and glass; both are a great way to add a little color to your home without redecorating. However you decide to do it, here are some tips for how to add a little floral into your life.
Living Room
Mixing patterns is all the rage in modern country design these days, but it can seem confusing when you first begin. To do it successfully, find three separate areas in your living room and give each a unique floral. Try mixing both large and small patterns for extra visual interest, and keep them all in the same color family to give the room a cohesive feel. If you aren’t sure where to begin incorporating your mixed patterns, consider starting with fabric window blinds, throw pillows and an area rug.
Kitchen
Kitchen curtains often feature a floral flair, but don’t feel limited to your window treatments when it comes to incorporating more gorgeous floral into your kitchen. Place mats, displayed crocks or vases and even dish towels offer small ways to make a big floral statement. If you really want to make a splash, try applying vinyl flower decals to your kitchen cabinets. Fresh flowers on the kitchen table or counter finish off the look and provide a wonderful aroma at the same time.
Bedroom
Wallpaper has been making a comeback in recent years, and it’s available in many new styles and textures that add interest and depth to your room design. A floral accent wall in your bedroom is a great way to incorporate your favorite flowers into your room without overwhelming the rest of the design. A floral throw blanket adds a cozy touch to any bed, and a floral lampshade or decorative vase for your bedside table are nice ways to add more feminine, floral touches to complement your statement wall.
Bathroom
Many people are hesitant to overwhelm a small bathroom with patterns of any type, but florals can be used in a tasteful way to make your bathroom both beautiful and inviting. Full curtains or shower curtains can seem like you’re trying too hard in a small room, but smaller complimentary floral accents such as hand towels, framed photos and carved hand soaps for display will liven up your country style and add a cohesive floral pattern design.
Whatever your style, consider adding the beauty of a new floral pattern to at least one room in your home to freshen up your design and add new depth to a favorite room. The possibilities are endless with this versatile pattern, so don’t be afraid to get creative!
