This partiular one is from Les Marconnets, a sub-region of Beaune, just out of town, and carrying Premier Cru status.
It's a vibrant wine, deeply coloured as the vintage would suggest. The nose is concentrated, if a little closed at this point, with promises of blood and roses but at this
stage more along the mineral and spice route with just a hint of floral/herb character. It's got plenty of grip, and the phenolics at this stage are a little raw, but I'm sure this will change. Some tomato stalk on the palate, earth, cherries and currants. Finish is spicy (cedar and pepper) with hints of chocolate and sugared almond. Gutsy wine.
