If you wanted to enjoy a television or radio show with friends during the blockade, the BBC is experimenting with a tool to do just that.

BBC Together allows you to watch or listen to BBC iPlayer, Sounds, Bitesize, News and Sports content in sync with other people using different devices.

It is available through the BBC Taster experimental website.

Dr BBC R & D's Libby Miller said he was separated "doesn't mean we can't enjoy great shows with our friends."

He added: "We wanted to see if technology could bring people together to watch and listen to BBC shows remotely as a shared experience."

The group "host" can send a link from the BBC Together website, so check when to play and pause so that everyone sees the same thing at the same time. A maximum of 50 people can be joined.

The BBC said that the coronavirus blockade has led to a surge in the use of iPlayer.

Netflix Party, an extension of Google Chrome that offers a similar but unofficial service for Netflix, also allows people to sync the view.

For YouTube, Vimeo and other content, there is Watch2Gether, while Kast supports all major streaming services.

Dr Miller pointed out that BBC Together was "just a test at this stage".

"We will monitor how well it works and think about how we could change it in the future, but we can't wait to see and hear the creative ways people use it and get their feedback on Taster," he said. .
