Battlestar Galactica: The Reopening at Universal Studios Singapore

By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy

It was the first major roller coaster I conquered, so I was upset to find out that Battlestar Galactica: Human vs Cylon at Universal Studios Singapore was closed. Rumors surfaced about the ride’s fate, but disproving speculations, the ride reopened May this year to the delight of its fans, myself included. And so when we revisited, I was as giddy as a school boy. Read more…

Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon took to the skies once more in May this year as one of the highlights of Universal Studios Singapore’s fifth anniversary. The “world’s tallest dueling roller coasters” feature all-new vehicles—this time with only two seats per row and thus fewer riders per batch for a riding experience where the speed and thrills are more felt.

Said Mr. Jason Horkin, Vice President of Attractions at Resorts World Sentosa, “The newly designed vehicles are designed to improve the overall guest experience, as riders will feel closer to the experience. It is as if everyone has their own window seat.”

And according to our friends at Resorts World Sentosa:

Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon is themed after the hit TV series produced by Universal Cable Productions, which aired on Syfy for four seasons. The roller coaster immerses riders in an on-going battle between Cylons and Humans. The ride features a suspended Cylon coaster and a conventional Human coaster. Riders are launched at high speed and experience a series of loops and inversions as they chase the opposing coaster. Each coaster offers a unique ride experience.

In numbers, here’s Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon:

  • 1 km – track on each coaster
  • 90 seconds – ride experience
  • 42.7 m – highest point on both coasters; equivalent to 14 storeys
  • 5 – inversions on Battlestar Galactica: Cylon
  • 90 km/h – top speed
  • 16 riders on each vehicle; everyone gets a window seat
  • 125 cm – minimum height to ride

How to get there: The easiest way to get to Resorts World Sentosa would be to take an MRT to HarbourFront Station. Follow the signs leading to the bus stop for RWS 8 that drops passengers directly at the basement of Resorts World Sentosa. Going back, the Sentosa Express may be taken for free from Waterfront Station to Sentosa Station in VivoCity, which is connected to the MRT.
