Batman and Robin(Catwoman) #22 Review

Batman and Robin is an interesting title for a monthly comic book after one of your headlined characters died a couple of months ago, but what is the comic book world without a Batman and Robin comic? Exactly. Batman and Robin is a staple in the world of pop culture, and will surely always have a home at your local comic book shop. So after DC killed off the current Robin this title faced the biggest hurdle. How do you continue?

Each month since the death of Damien we have seen Batman “team-up” with a different member of a the Bat-family. In each issue Batman works through a different stage of grief. Issue 22 is the one I have been waiting for since I heard about the team-up books…CATWOMAN.   I love Catwoman. Her and Batman together is always a dream, and too rare of an occurrence. If i’m being totally honest I’m not loving the current writer on the Catwoman book, so I love getting to see her in other books. This did not disappoint. In the first page both Catwoman’s solo title’s story line and her JLA storyline were referenced and connected to the story we were about to read in Batman and Robin #22. What a great start and an amazing way to ground this issue in the world of the new 52. I love crossovers, but I love stories being canon more. So if I can’t place where or when a crossover is supposed to have occurred it bothers me in a big way, but when the author takes time to know and create a story in the current setting…mad props! Catwoman is a complex character, and her and Batman together can be confusing if not handled correctly. This issue highlighted EXACTLY why they work together so well, and why they need to have more interactions in the new 52 universe moving forward. I am also loving the Carrie Kelley side story going on. Bringing her into the offical Batman canon is an exciting decision that I totally support. I think most people were expecting Stephanie Brown to fill this role, but brining Carrie in to the DCU proper is such a great move for such an amazing character! I really hope(if they decide to replace robin at all) that Carrie fills Damien’s old boots. She has just the right mix to play off of Batman’s ever growing dark persona. Overall this was my favorite issue of the series since the death of Robin, and I cannot wait to see what else is in store! 5/5
