BATHS’ show at Webster Hall was definitely an interesting mixture of sounds, with each act bringing something interesting to the table. The first was Djavan Santos, a.k.a. D33J, who walked up to the mic and said, “What’s up guys? I’m going to play some weird music for you…” to everyone’s delight. As someone new to this type of music, I felt placed in a trance — this was the sort of chill sound that perfectly compliments the aftermath of some hardcore partying. Afterwards, there came a totally different vibe from Houses’ Dexter Tortoriello and Megan Messina. With more of an ethereal sound, they had the crowd gently swaying their heads and stomping their feet to the deep bass.

Finally came the main act, BATHS, whose real name is Will Wiesenfeld. He once claimed to be “inspired by really dark material,” and his music definitely seemed to reflect that comment. While I might be a somewhat new fan, the subject matter and sound made me feel as connected as a loyal fan, which he seemed to have in abundance.
