Ban the Boredom with Buster Books

By Evette Garside @evette77

Look at our brand new books, arrived just in time for the long Summer holidays and all from Buster books.

When I was a child, I too had lots of books. Lots of stories and teen novels but what I really enjoyed was the non – fiction books. The books with strange facts, poems, books with puzzles and brainteasers and books packed with ideas and things to do. Buster books have a large catalog bursting with books such as these and lots more besides. Of course they also have a fair few good fiction reads too. If I had seen this catalog of fun books as a child then I would have been in pure book heaven.

We were sent a package containing 4 books in total. Ryan and Jordanna were really excited at their new books. They are fairly good at sharing when it comes to books and tend to take turns in reading and swapping.

The Owl and the Pussycat

This lovely little book contains hundreds of poems for children to treasure. It is a mixture of modern classics with well loves favourites and even contains a few from Shakespeare plays. Some of the poems have short informative introductions. I think this book may come in useful helping Ryan with any homework he may have which involves poem writing.
The Owl and the Pussycat is paperback and is currently available at a reduced price of just £6.99. I am unable to find any information on age suitability so am assuming it’s fine for all ages. Parents can always read poems to younger ones from the book.

The Cute Colouring Book

Yes quite simply it’s a colouring book. It features artwork by French illustrator Emile Jadoul and contains many pages of delightful critters waiting to be coloured in or painted. Simply txt introductions appear on many of the pages. The drawings are really simple and the theme is around a host of cute and cuddly toys having fun in a department store. Lots of fun on the rainy days.
£7.99 and with an age guide 3-6 years.

The Big Book of Amazing Activities

Here is a big fun book packed full of different activities designed to beat the rainy day boredom. The vast puzzle collection includes sudoku, wordsearches, crosswords, number puzzles and much more. As well as all the puzzles there are also lots of doodle and colouring pages, dot to dot and color by numbers. Towards the back of the book are numerous cut out activities to make things such as planes and animals.
There are over 250 pages. I am trying to teach both Ryan and Jordanna how to do Sudoku and they are getting the hang of it. I’m also teaching Jordanna how to do crosswords. The crossword questions are fairly easy for a 10 year old.
This book certainly keeps them going for a while.
It costs £12.99. Again I can’t find an age guide. I would say for the puzzles alone probably 7 upwards but there are lots of colouring activities for the younger ones too.

Brain Games for Clever Kids
A great puzzle book with 101 puzzles designed to test every part of the brain.

Picture puzzles, logic, mind-benders, maths, battleships, word games and so much more can be found in this. At the top of each puzzle page is space to record how much time the puzzle takes to complete.
The author is Dr Gareth Moore who has wrote many other puzzle and brain training books as well as his own online puzzle site Puzzlemix.

Some of the puzzles are a lite tricky even for myself. I thought this would be a little too difficult for Jordanna and therefore Ryan has it. It does seem to be doing the trick- getting his brain working and thinking to try and work the puzzles out.

This book costs just £4.99 too.

All of the above books and many more can be found on the Buster Books website. They have a full catalog which can be browsed and then a link to your chosen book will take you to Amazon to purchase.
