Baden: A Beguiling Town on River Limmat in Switzerland

There is no dearth of charming towns and villages when in the picture perfect land of the Swiss. Baden is one such town about 25 km from Zurich which forms for a delightful day trip from the city. Perched on the left bank of the river Limmat, the town has been historically known for its hot mineral springs and resorts.

Like most Swiss towns, Baden too is straight out of a fairy tale book with lush greenery, beautiful bridges and a distinct medieval vibe. The town whose name means “bath” in German is known for its hot sulfur springs that lie in the northern part of the town.

Baden dates back to as early as 1230 AD and around the 15th century, it gained popularity as a resort town. During the 19th century, the mineral waters of the town were considered beneficial for treating gout and rheumatism and was frequented by visitors from all over.
