Bad Press, Celebrities Cash In

Many know him as T. I. while the justice system knows him as Clifford Harris. The Atlanta based rapper was released from his 11 months prison term one month early. The rappers sentence was a result of probation violation when he was arrested and charged with possession of illegal drugs back in October 2010. Before that he served seven months in prison for trying to buy unregistered guns and silencers from an undercover agent, is it me or does this sound like a pat on the back. Here is a guy that was a seven time, felon before being busted for the gun charges and he only gets seven months, what! Often times we see celebrities in the news for bad choices they make in their lives, but as a society we tend to glorify these bad choices and reward these individuals with more opportunities than we do the individuals who walk the straight and narrow path.My question is have we become a society that cares more for the criminal. Now this is just the tip of the iceberg Mr. Harris walks out of prison and he now has a book deal with HarperCollins that will be released in October, as well as a new reality TV series that will be aired on VH1. I’m confused we have college grads that go to school and come out with mountains of debt and on top of that they are unable to find employment. We wonder why our crime rate has increased since this recession, it seems as though it pays to be on the wrong side of the law, and it pays well. When did becoming a criminal become the thing that has the highest return on investment, you kill someone here’s a book deal, you sell drugs and buy illegal guns how about your own reality TV series.
