Ready to see something awesome to brighten up your day? Then feast your eyes on these cool GIFs that look like they come from an alternate reality. Made by engineering student Hugo Germain, these GIFs visualise weird and whacky ideas, such as gravity defying coils, asteroids, rocket powered pens and floating letters!
All these GIFs are inspired by the cool but difficult subjects of physics and maths which creator Hugo studies on his engineering degree. From topics such as energy, geometry and space he creates fantastic objects that don’t obey the rules of our reality. Instead these GIFs show us cool looking ideas of what it might be like in an alternate reality where our laws of gravity don’t hold and all sorts of crazy science and magic happen!
Hugo says he gets most of his inspiration from having a sense of wonder as he looks around him and constantly asking questions about everyday life. He often asks “What if this or that was different/existed?” and “What would that look like?”. When he has an idea, he doodles it down during the day and creates the images on his computer at night using special computer programmes like After Effects and Cinema 4d which help him bring his ideas to life. He says one of the most interesting things about his creations is that the final results are usually much different from what he originally had in mind, being a surprise even to him!
If anything, Hugo’s creations prove that the laws of science can be really cool to explore, and that science fiction and magic exist in our world, all you have to do is look around and imagine it!
