"I'm awake. I have been woken by the spirit inside, that demanded I open my eyes,"
-AWAKE, A Dream from Standing RockDirector and documentary film-maker Josh Fox, well known for his documentary series GasLand and for his activism on the front lines of the anti-fracking movement, is giving the indigenous people of Standing Rock the media coverage they deserve. His newest film documents the truth about what has been happening at Standing Rock for the past year. AWAKE, A Dream from Standing Rock is his latest film that will be premiering tomorrow on Earth Day at the Tribeca Film Festival. For those who can't attend, Fox has released his film online for download by donation.
"Audiences can donate any amount they want to stream the film online. 100% of the proceeds will go to an Indigenous Media Fund and a Pipeline Fighters Fund supervised by the film’s creators and a council of indigenous leaders to support direct actions, indigenous filmmakers and journalists,"-awakethefilm.org
This film is as grass roots as the movement itself. AWAKE is not backed by any large network like HBO, as some of Fox's previous films have been. Indigenous people are the stewards of the Earth. These original people have a connection to nature that we all can learn from. They were some of the first people to warm us about pollution and climate change, long before the science was settled. The world deserves to know what really happened at Standing Rock, and the Sioux tribe's voices need to be heard. Do you have $5 to spare? Pre-order the film today! It is available April 22nd (Earth Day) at 8:45 PM. I'll be watching- will you?
