The postponed events of the National centenary athletic championship will be held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama on Saturday (23).
According to the Vice President of the Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) G.L.S Perera, the centenary athletic championship was held for three days April 8-10 while last day on the 11th most of the events could not be conducted due to heavy rain and these events will be worked off on Saturday (23) at the same venue.
The events are; men’s and women’s 400m, 100m finals, 1500 men final, men and women triple jump finals, javelin throw men and women finals, men and women high jump finals, women shot put final and are the key events scheduled to be held on the 23rd. Amasha de Silva the sprinter is the key attraction of the women’s 100 metres final.
This centenary athletic championship is important as it is considered for the final selection trials for the forthcoming Asian Games. Gayanthika Abeyratne (1500m) Sachini Perera (Pole vault ) and Nilani Ratnayake (3000m steeplechase) were established new National records during the first two days at the National championships while long jumper Sarangi Silva set up a new meet record.
