At The Marriage License Bureau

By Lilveggiepatch @Lilveggiepatch

We got our marriage license yesterday!

The process is a lot more informal than I thought it would be. Basically, you go down to the City Clerk’s office near City Hall, fill out some short paperwork, wait until your number is called (~1 hour for us), pay $35 and sign more paperwork. The only little hiccup we experienced was that the credit card machine was down, so we had to go to the Duane Reade across the street and buy a money order. (If I were doing this again, I would have just brought a money order to begin with.)

The marriage bureau was a flurry of excitement! There was a mix of couples just getting their licenses, like us, and those waiting to get married by the in-house judge.

Fancy clothes and happy faces! You can flowers on-the-spot, too, at a store in the hall. There are also photographers waiting outside to take your photo, if you want to buy a few. We happen to be having a private ceremony with a bunch of people, but there’s something so romantic about doing tit this way, too. I love these photos.

Of course, we had to take our picture in front of “City Hall”!

After we finished at the City Clerk’s, we went to lunch at Terra, a new-ish restaurant and wine bar in Tribeca. The place is impeccably designed: lots of light, exposed brick, displayed wine barrels and bottles of wine for days. Their lunch menu is also extensive, and very reasonably priced! I was teetotaling for the day, but will be back in the future to sample the wine list.

I LOVE this photo of my mom. So happy, so full of life… and reaching for one of her favorite things!

Charred octopus with potatoes and celery. Anytime “octopus” is a special, we get it!

Lobster with arugula and avocado, in a delicious lemon-y vinaigrette.

A delicious way to celebrate an exciting moment! 17 days to go…

P.S. The winner of the ZonePerfect giveaway is Gaby! Shoot me an email with your address and I’ll get that out ASAP.
