Our friends from Madrid dropped by Porto on their way to the Azores earlier this month, and my goal was to include as much sightseeing as they had energy for in the ~10 hours before their flight. (Soon I’ll start calling these itineraries my Azorean layover tours of Porto.) My first stop for the Madrileños? The beach.
From the airport we drove to Leça da Palmeira, the long stretch of beaches north of Porto and the Leça River. Although it was early April the weather made it feel much warmer, even by the sea. After breakfast at Praia do Cabo do Mundo, we took the beach boardwalk nearly all the way to the Boa Nova lighthouse, which is a scenic route I recommend if you’re in the area. The map is below as an indicator, but use the boardwalk instead of the road and take plenty of water.
If you want to explore these northern beaches and don’t have a car, Bus 508 goes to Praia do Cabo do Mundo and departs from Mercado Bom Sucesso.
