It’s the New Year and many of us have made resolutions to improve our lifestyle during the year. To give yourself an extra incentive to make a change in your everyday lifestyle, why not pamper yourself first? Start the year looking younger and more relaxed by treating yourself to the spa! For me, spending a day at the spa helps give me the strength to change my diet and exercise habits.
Whenever I leave a spa I ask myself, “Why can’t I recreate this experience in my own home?” Imagine having the ability to retreat to your spa bathroom, calming yourself from the stresses you’ve received dealing with family, work, cleaning, and the list goes on and on. Below are some easy and cost effective ways for you to design your very own home spa. These methods don’t involve the hassle of a complete bathroom overhaul. Since this bathroom is going to be the place where you’ll go to relax and rejuvenate, make this all important space lovely and inviting.
Let’s start with wall colors. You want colors that will calm and soothe you, such as soft gray or blue.

Lighting. It’s all about creating a mood, so you don’t want too much light. To create an ambiance that helps you relax and soothe your senses, spas light their rooms with aroma-therapeutic scented candles, such as lavender or sandalwood; these candles help offset stress and anxiety and promote a sense of calm. Arrange your candles on a ledge or around the tub before you go in it for a long soak.

Music. It’s a must in any spa! Think of being out in nature and hearing birds chirping. You want music that will soothe and relax you, taking away your worries of the day.

To keep enjoying your at home spa during the winter months, a heated towel rack is an ideal way to keep towels or robes warm and snuggly. The bars heat up quickly and distribute heat safely and evenly. Invest in some good quality, fluffy matching towels such as Turkish towels.

Your surfaces should be clutter free. Have your makeup tools and other items hidden away in apothecary jars, the medicine cabinet or a wall storage unit.
