The biggest reason why so many of us in India fail to dispose of our e-waste in an eco-friendly way is that there is no easy way to do it. Last year, I wanted to dispose off my old desktop computer. I searched the net, made a few phone calls even, but could not find any service where the computer co uld be disposed off conveniently and in an eco friendly way. Those that I found on net failed to respond. Finally, I had to give it off to a scrap dealer, despite knowing how wrong that was.

There is an urgent need of easy and eco-friendly e-waste solutions in India. More and more of us are realizing the importance of adopting green habits. It good to see that the technology brands are waking up to this and offering green solutions to their consumers.

Going forward in this line, ASUS has announced a new global E-waste recycling target. Moreover, the Taiwanese brand is also taking steps to make it easier for consumers to dispose of their e-waste in more nature-friendly way.

The new global e-waste recycling target of ASUS

ASUS aims to recycle 20% of its global e-waste by 2025. I know, the numbers by themselves don't sound very impressive. But for a big brand like ASUS, they translate into huge reduction of e-waste.

As per the information I got, ASUS has joint ventures in 14 countries with qualified local recyclers to help recycle e-waste. In the previous year, ASUS recycled close to 11 million kilograms of e-waste. This represents a 12.2 percent recovery ratio of total products sold.

New e-waste recycling operation in India:

The good news for us in India is that ASUS is going to start a new recycling operation in India, as part of its Extended Producer's Responsibility. This new initiative will encourage consumers to recycle their used devices at dedicated collection points. These collection points are to be located in 40 strategic locations. The customer can come and deposit their e-waste there or avail the free pick-up facility by registering their request through customer care toll free number of select cities. To handle the e-waste recycling, ASUS has tied-up with one of the major recyclers in the India.

All this was announced by ASUS in celebration of the World Environment Day which is celebrated on 5th June since 1972. To mark this event, ASUS is also hosting a series of global recycling events to raise environmental awareness.

Considering the rising threat of global warming, it is essential for the companies and consumers to adopt such green ways to reduce our harmful impact on nature. Consumers also need to have the awareness of the growing problem of e-waste in India. I just hope that more brands would soon make it easier for us to dispose of e-waste in eco-friendly way.
