Asus A555LF Laptop Review: A Mid Range Laptop

Posted on the 29 February 2016 by Dreamtechie

As far as PCs and laptops are concerned, Asus is no new kid in the block. Rather, the company got placed among the top 5 vendors in the world by market share in 2015 by Gartner. Recently, Asus launched a handful of laptops in their A series, and today we're going to review the most power-packed laptop from the lot- Asus A555LF. Let's check out if the device is really worth your time and money.

Design and Build Quality

The Asus A555LF has been crafted entirely out of plastic, and the lid flashes its glossy finish, attracting a lot of fingerprints and smudges. Despite this little flaw, the plastic used is of good quality that gives the laptop a great look and feel, especially from the inside.

While the laptop seems quite large, thanks to its 15.6 inches display, it is little heavy too, with a weight of 2.3 kg. Talking about ease of use, the keyboard is extremely comfortable to type for long duration, and it even has ample palm rest area, with a spacious trackpad. Asus has been quite generous while managing the space on this device! This smart device is available in attractive colors including Blue, Dark Brown & Red and we reviewed the Dark Brown device.

Display and Software

Unlike the recent trend of Full HD 1080p displays in sub-50K laptops, Asus chose to stick with a lowly resolution of 1366 x 768. The LED Backlit display on the Asus A555LF is a bit dim, and also has average viewing angles. Though the display is decent for basic usage, like watching movies and web surfing, extreme users won't find it up to the mark.

The laptop obviously runs on Microsoft's latest Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS, and the experience is largely similar to any Windows powered device. Windows 10 feels much more refined than its previous iterations, and it now comes with some of the most amazing features, including Microsoft's virtual assistant Cortana. Asus has also thrown in a few utility tools that sometimes come in handy.

Performance

The Asus A555LF comes loaded with a fair set of specifications, that give decent performance at best. The laptop runs on an Intel Core i5-5200U dual-core processor clocked at 2.7 GHz. The device comes loaded with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, and graphics are handled by NVidia GeForce 930M dedicated graphics card of 2 GB capacity.

With a combination of these respectable specifications, the laptop offers good performance. The laptop is great for day-to-day activities, and we encountered no problem whatsoever even while multitasking. The gaming performance was even satisfactory, considering it configuration and price. The Asus A555LF can handle most of the recent gaming titles in low to medium settings, depending upon the game.

With Asus IceCool technology, there were no heating issues; the palm rest area becomes a bit warm while playing demanding games, which is quite normal. One of the major plus points of the laptop is its audio quality. The downward firing spears come with SonicMaster technology, and offer crisp and loud sound, which is perfect for gaming, movies as well as music listening.

Battery Life

Another department where you can call the device decent, and not the best, especially considering the rivals. On mixed usage, comprising web browsing, music listening, video playing, occasional gaming, and writing on MS Word, the 2-cell Lithium Polymer battery pack in the laptop will last for about 4 to 5 hours at its best. This leaves much space for improvement in the battery department.

Should you buy it?

It actually depends on your usage requirement.

For its great performance and audio experience this device surely a good buy. But in case if you need some really good battery then you might can check better options from Asus or from other respective brands. Asus A555LF is a great bargain for a price of ₹48,999. Moreover, Asus is bundling the device with 2-year international warranty, when rivals settle with just 1-year term.

Just choose wisely!
