Ásgeir Trausti Brings Some Icelandic Magic [stream]

It’s no secret that Iceland and its Scandinavian neighbors are a gold mine for some of today’s best pop music. At the ripe young age of twenty, Ásgeir Trausti lives up to his Icelandic contemporaries (Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Rós, Björk) with some delicate cooing of poetic verses and folksy fingerpicking. In September, Trausti released his first album, an upbeat, full band wonder to amp up the energy behind his harmonious vocals. The lyrics, though, were written by Trausti’s 72-year-old father in their native tongue. This past February, Trausti’s songs were re-imagined with his Toe Rag Acoustic Session in London: three songs totally stripped down, with the spotlight on Trausti’s outstanding voice and bewitching harmonies (and, lucky for us, all translated for our anglophone ears). Listen to the Toe Rag Session and become completely enchanted with the Icelandic magic that never ceases to impress!
