This week’s artist on the rise is 5 Seconds of Summer (also known as 5SOS). They are an Australian pop rock/pop punk band formed in Sydney in 2011. The band is composed of four young men starting with Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin . The men begin their music career through YouTube by posting their own music videos of covering songs from various artists in 2011 along with a few of their own.

In 2012, they gained a small number of YouTube followers, after posting a series of cover versions of popular song. These young men quickly rose to international fame when One Direction invited them on their Take Me Home Tour. On November 21, 2013, the band announced that they had signed to Capitol Records.

The group has been referred to as a boy band such as One Direction in the media. In February 2014, they released “She Looks So Perfect” as their debut worldwide release. It topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK. Their self-titled debut studio album was released in June 2014, which peaked #1 and in April 2014, their “She Looks So Perfect EP debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200.  The album released four singles: “She Looks So Perfect“, “Don’t Stop“, “Amnesia” and “Good Girls”. “Everything I Didn’t Say” and “Kiss Me Kiss Me” were also released as promotional singles. Throughout the past few years these young men flaunted their talent on YouTube: with a bit of patience and plenty of hard work, these men have spread their music worldwide.
