Not to be missed in October on the expertly curated cult streaming service ARROW – Halloween treats aplenty with seven outstanding J-Horror chillers, a month’s worth of premium frights, including folk horror Sator and Wil Wheaton in Rent-A-Pal as well as Shocktober31, horror director Michael Dougherty and horror fest Celluloid Screams choose their faves, and more

In October, exclusively on ARROW in the UK, J-Horror Rising, seven seriously scary films from the wave of horror and mystery films that emerged in Japan at the turn of the millennium, collectively labelled as ‘J-Horror’, featuring childhood trauma, urban legends, high school hysteria, deadly curses and folklore demons: Shikoku, Isola: Multiple Personality Girl, Inugami, St. John’s Wort, Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman, Noroi: The Curse, and Persona

Also next month, folk horror in the form of Sator, about a supernatural entity in a forest trying to take over a family living in a remote cabin; atmospheric chills in Come True directed by Anthony Scott Burns (Our House); a gloriously gory remake of slasher classic Slumber Party Massacre; and two creepy and dread-filled odes to the days of VHSJacob Gentry’s unnerving Broadcast Signal Intrusion, and Jon Stevenson’s Grimmfest and Sitges winning Rent-A-Pal, starring and Brian Landis Folkins (Hoax) and Wil Wheaton (Stand By Me).

ARROW continues its commitment to showing the best in offbeat short films, with a selection of hilarious horror comedies – Blood Shed, starring Shaun Dooley and Sally Phillips, from Severance writer James Moran, the SXSW Film Festival Midnight Short We Forgot About The Zombies, and Marcus Meedt’s Werewolf, where a fun game amongst friends takes a turn for the peculiar.

Finally in October on ARROW, don’t miss the hilarious King Knight, written and directed by Richard Bates Jr, starring Matthew Gray Gubler (500 Days of Summer) as a new age high priest banished from his coven when his conventional past comes to light.

Michael Dougherty Selects, with the writer-director of of cult horror favourites Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus and blockbuster creature feature Godzilla: King of the Monsters (and scriptwriter of X2: X-men United, Superman Returns and Godzilla vs Kong), choosing his faves from the ARROW catalogue, including One Missed Call, Basket Case, and Mako: Jaws of Death
 

 Trick?a selection of scary short films with a sting in the tail, including The Monkey’s Paw and The Wyrm of Bwlch Pen Barras; and Treat?, a big handful of short films full of fun, laughs and maybe the odd gallon of blood too, including Bark, Keith, and Bad Acid

Celluloid Screams Selects, with the team from North England’s premier annual horror film festival handpicking a host of cult films including The Endless, Hellraiser 2 and Blood and Black Lace 

J-Horror Rising, with vengeful ghosts returning from beyond the grave, young women with supernatural abilities, a terror of technology, and an ominous aura of urban alienation and isolation, the season features seven of the J-horror genre’s standout titles, including Shikoku, Isola: Multiple Personality Girl, and Inugami
