Armchair BEA — Introduction

Book Expo America (BEA) is a huge deal in the book world, but what do you do if you can’t make it to New York this year? Join Armchair BEA! I’m participating this year with daily, or more, posts and lots of cheerleading for other participants. I’m thinking of setting up Instagram so I can play along with the photo challenges.

First up, Introduction. As an introduction, participants are asked to choose five of these ten questions to answer.

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Where in the world are you blogging from?

Hi! I’m Joy a librarian, not currently working in a library. This blog has been going since January 2011, but I started my first blog in 2005 when I was a library student. I love talking about books! I’m blogging from Kirkwood, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.

2. Describe your blog in just one sentence. Then, list your social details — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. — so we can connect more online.

4. What was your favorite book read last year? What’s your favorite book so far this year? Last year, my favorite novel was Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and my favorite nonfiction was Julia Child Rules by Karen Karbo.

So far this year, well, I have a love-hate relationship with Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson because it took me so long to read the thing, but I’ll go with that since I spent so much time with it.

6. What is your favorite blogging resource?

I sometimes forget about it by the middle of the year, but I love how A Novel Challenge helps me find challenges to participate in each year, and sometimes at other times.

7. Spread the love by naming your favorite blogs/bloggers (doesn’t necessarily have to be book blogs/bloggers).

I have many, but today I’ll highlight April, The Steadfast Reader. Among other things, I love the way she uses Google Plus, a space I’m trying to get more comfortable in.
