Are You #TeamBoob?

Today I want to talk about boobs. More importantly, checking your boobs.
When I wrote this cervical cancer awareness post last year, I felt a little like I was speaking out of turn. It's a taboo subject, only to be discussed in very hushed tones, but it shouldn't be. The same goes for breast cancer. I know, even just reading about it can be scary, but wouldn't you rather know what signs to be looking for? Checking your boobs regularly could save your life. Guys this stuff goes for you too, as 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and lads have breast tissue too.

CoppaFeel! and ASOS are working together on the #BraHijack and sent me this 'I Heart Boobs' kit as something fun to raise awareness. While the  kit is full of fun boob related items, there's a serious message in there and it's something we should all be aware of, regardless of age.

CoppaFeel! was founded by Kris Hallenga, she was misdiagnosed twice for breast cancer at the age of 23 and now lives with secondary breast cancer. 23 is very young and this is why it's so important to check regularly - breast cancer doesn't just affect older women. The #BraHijack campaign is a great way to get young women talking about their boobs and making it less of a taboo subject. The CoppaFeel! tag you'll see in ASOS own brand bras should act as a little reminder to check every month. Get to know what's normal for you and be aware of the signs to look out for. If you see or feel anything that doesn't feel right, go get it checked out. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

So, how can you get involved and be part of Team Boob? Well for one, check your boobs every month. It'll take less than 5 minutes! You can also buy the I Love... Perfectly Peachy shower gel to support CoppaFeel! (and it handily has all the signs and symptoms you should be looking out for) available in Boots. Talk to your friends/family and make sure they know what to be looking for, take part in charity activities and fundraise for CoppaFeel! and let's not make boobs such a taboo subject!

If you want to go all out, get yourself a mug like this one I received in my kit - it'll certainly make an impression on your desk at work... But seriously, make sure you check regularly. I know I've tried to keep this lighthearted, but breast cancer is real and affects 1 in 8 women, so make sure you know what to look for, check regularly and have any doubts checked out by a GP. There's more information on breast cancer on CoppaFeel's website.
