Are We Sure Joe Citizen Needs an AR-15?

By Lisaorchard @lisaorchard1

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’m back from vacation. I really needed it, and I got some writing done along with having some fun in the sun. But enough about that. Today I want to talk about the assassination attempt on President Trump.

This is another example of where a young child (yes, I consider twenty young) has access to his parents’ firearms. The owner of the gun was the young man’s father. No one needs an AR-15 type of rifle. It is not used in hunting. So, why would Joe Citizen need this type of weapon?

I’m not an advocate for Trump. This isn’t a political post at all. This is a post about gun control. I believe everyone has the right to bear arms, but come on…An AR-15? No one outside of law enforcement needs this type of weapon.

I know what you’re going to say. It was his father’s gun. So what? His father didn’t need that type of weapon either. The rise in mass shootings in our country concerns me. Whether they’re at a school, a shopping mall, or a political rally.

It seems to me the US has a number of mentally ill people who have access to guns. Now, I’m not saying the young shooter at the rally is mentally ill, but what mentally balanced person thinks, “I’ll go to the Trump Rally and shoot at him?”

Until we’re able to get a handle on the rising mental health issues in our country, we need stricter gun laws. I don’t know any other solution. It’s working for the Canadians, why shouldn’t it work for us?

I look at the school shootings and the mass shootings in our past. In my humble opinion they all had one thing in common. Disconnection.

Our connections with our families and communities has grown weaker. I blame technology. We need in-person connections like we used to have before technology allowed us to hibernate in our homes and stay connected via the internet.

Until then, let’s rein in our ability for anyone to buy an assault rifle. Okay?

Do you have any other solutions? Please share them! Leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you.
