Are Eggs Paleo Friendly?

Sometimes it is difficult to get your head around the complete change in mentality surrounding some foods on the Paleo diet and one of the best examples of a food that used to be demonized but is now lorded, has to be the humble egg.

Are Eggs Paleo?

So, are eggs Paleo and can you eat them if you are following a caveman diet – well the answer is a resounding yes!

I can remember as a child absolutely loving eggs – especially for breakfast – but being told that I was only allowed to eat eggs on the odd occasion because they were so bad for me.  Back then it was thought that you should limit your egg intake to no more than about three eggs a week (which is surprisingly difficult being as eggs are a major ingredient in many foods and meals).

I never did really find out what was so wrong with eating eggs but I know I am one of an entire generation who cut back on the eggs.

Now everything has been tipped on its head with the experts now finally praising eggs for their hugely beneficial properties.

Eggs are perhaps the very best source of high quality protein and fat and are not only cheap and accessible to almost everyone – they are also super versatile and can be used from breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, sweet dishes, savory delight and almost everything in between.

On the Paleo diet the focus is very much on eating real foods and you can’t get more real than a simple egg can you?!

Why Eggs Are Paleo

Yes, it is true that eggs are high in cholesterol but it is the good sort that we actually need to be healthy.  Eggs are also high in protein, amino acids and 39 different vitamins and minerals making it a super source of great food that everyone can get their hands on.

For many people following the Paleo plan, eggs are a great alternative for those who don’t want to eat quite so much protein in the form of meat or fish.  Even committed meat eaters can find eating protein all the time a little restrictive so instead the egg comes in as the perfect alternative for a hearty meal and eggs can be the saving grace for vegetarians (who eat eggs of course) who want to follow this healthy plan of eating that can lead to impressive weight loss.
