Are Billie Razors Worth the Hype? My Review of Billie Razors

If you have spent any time on Instagram, a Billie Razor ad has probably shown up in your feed. The ads appeared in my feed so often that I just had to learn more. I guess that is the point of advertising, eventually, you relent.

Before we talk about Billie Razors let’s talk about Pink Tax

Billie Razors (website here) are designed specifically for women. I have always found it interesting that there has been such innovation surrounding men’s shaving needs and not women’s. Women shave much more surface area compared to men. And let’s talk about Pink Tax.

Products marketed specifically toward women cost on average 7% more than products marketed toward men, according to a New York City Department of Consumer Affairs study. This discrepancy applies to apparel, toys, and healthcare products, among other things. In the toy sector, girls’ toys cost on average 7% more than boys’ toys. The study talked about a side-by-side comparison of a Radio Flyer scooter where the red scooter costs $24.99 and a pink scooter, identical in all ways but color, costs $49. In children’s apparel, girls’ clothes were 4% more expensive than boys’. Men’s clothing was 8% less expensive than women’s clothes. The largest discrepancy came to personal care/hygiene products, where women’s products cost 13% more than men’s. You can visit the site AxThePinkTax.com to read more and even calculate how much Pink Tax has cost you based on birthdate. According to my date of birth, the Pink Tax has already cost me $61,596!!

Billie Razors are vehemently against Pink Tax and don’t just charge women 1/2 the price what other women’s shaving brands cost, they’re priced in line with men’s subscription shaving services.

Saving money is great, but are Billie Razors any good?

This I needed to find out, so I signed up for a subscription. At only a $9 initial outlay to get a razor and two replacement blades, it was worth the expense even if I wound up throwing it away. Billie makes it super easy to get started. You choose your razor color, let them know how often you shave to help them determine how often two new blades will be sent to you, and voila, you’re done. As a daily shaver, two blades are sent to me monthly. You also get this neat little magnetic razor holder that can be adhered to your shower wall to keep your razor clean and safely out of the way.

Billie Razors impressively have 5 sharp nickel-free blades encased in 360° of charcoal shave soap with rounded edges to help you navigate your curves. Their products are free of toxins and bad additives.

As someone who previously attached my husband’s Gillette Mach 3 blades to my Venus razor, while men’s and women’s blades are identical and come out of the same machine, men and women shave differently. Women shave 10x the area, navigating more curves and angles – and have to get the job done before the shower rinses off shave cream. That’s why Billie razor cartridges are optimized in two ways for the way women shave: 1. Billie razor blades are encased in a smooth charcoal shave soap, so it floats over your skin allowing you to shave a larger area with comfort. 2. cartridges have rounded edges providing comfort when you’re shaving tight areas.

The smoothest shave of your life

Do you remember the first time you shaved your legs? I do. I remember because I went behind my mom’s wishes and used a razor in the shower to do it. What I remember so vividly about the experience was how smooth my legs felt. The feeling of my freshly shaved legs on the sheets was absolutely divine. I haven’t had a feeling of such an amazing shave since then…until I used my Billie Razor.

It’s been a long time since that first time I shaved my legs, so, trust me, I’m a cynic when it comes to the claims of beauty and personal hygiene products. So, let’s just say, I went into my Billie Razor experience expecting it to be just another razor with pretty packaging and a pro-woman message, especially for the truly affordable price. Then I tried it and, OH. MY. GOD. As ridiculous as it sounds, I actually look forward to shaving. You will get the smoothest shave and you don’t even need to use shaving cream to do it. You can use shaving cream, even Billie’s own shave cream, but that charcoal shave soap on each blade is pretty effective. What’s great for the “when I get around to it” shavers is your legs will stay smoother longer than with other razors because the shave is so close.

If I have to find a complaint it is to make sure you moisturize your legs after shaving. As someone who is lotion averse (I hate the feeling of it when it’s still moist), I can get a bit lazy about rubbing down my legs with lotion. I know, I know, gross. After two days of shaving and not lotioning, I noticed my legs were a bit dry. I don’t blame Bille for this, even though it was caused the super close shave these razors offer. It’s not their fault I hate body lotion. So lotion up. You can even try out their Dry-Bye Lotion that has no synthetic fragrances or parabens. Every single ingredient in their body care products has a top rating on the EWG Skin Deep Database, an organization that provides transparency for consumers to make the right decisions.

You will always have blade changes

If I can automate something, I will. As simple as it is to pick up razors while I’m at the drugstore, I won’t remember I need more until I am in the shower ready to shave my legs. As I said earlier, Billie asks how often you shave and sets up a delivery based on that. You get two cartridges delivered and only get billed $9 per delivery. So basically, not only do you never have to remember to buy razors ever again, you’ll pay a lot less for them.

Billie Razors also donate 1% of all revenue to women’s causes around the world. Currently, they are donating to Every Mother Counts, an organization that is committed to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for women everywhere.

So, yes, my final is a resounding yes! Billie Razors are amazing and worth each and every affordable penny. So get yourself a Billie Razor and get in that shower! Get started with a subscription here.
