Applebee’s: Revolutionizin’ Self-service Payments in the Neighborhood.

By Keewood @sellingeating

Aren’t they my friendly neighborhood meetin’ place? With photos of old local sports heroes by the bathroom and a flattened tuba over the bar?

Please. Just leave the money on the tablet and slip out the back.

For them to be the first major chain to ballyhoo on-table tablets designed to avoid flagging a server for the check seems a little, oh, futuristic.

No doubt we’ll be as familiar with them soon as we are with self-serve grocery lanes. Today I’m casually paying for Starbucks with my iPhone—though that seems like a fit for the brand that revolutionized procrastinating in style, holding a cup of expensive coffee.

That’s my only branding question: “See You Tomorrow” is a tiny bit chillier when it means “Briefly See You Tomorrow Long Enough To Bring Your Food Out and Then That’ll Be It.”

What’s next: trivia games?
