Plot: Recognizing the destructive power of its captive giant Ape, the military makes its own battle-ready A.I., Mecha Ape but its first practical test goes horribly wrong, leaving the military no choice but to release the imprisoned giant ape to stop the colossal robot before it destroys downtown Chicago.

Story: Ape vs. Mecha Ape starts as giant ape Abe is starting to become restless with his captivity. Sloane (Telfer) is the only one who can keep him calm, but now the military wants to use him in battle. However, they have also made an AI Mecha Ape that has caused a major threat to the world.

When the Mecha Ape goes out of control, Sloane tries to stop it. However, Abe has already decided to target the machine that could cause massive destruction. The race is one to stop the destruction from happening.

Verdict on Ape vs. Mecha Ape

Ape vs. Mecha Ape is the latest movie from Asylum looking to capture the magic of other big blockbuster concepts. This time we have a sequel to Ape vs Monster, with the Ape return for another outing. He must take on a robotic version, leaving us to see a big animal versus a big robot.

This does everything you would imagine, giving us a big idea and low-budget attempts to make a big-budget movie. It ends up feeling a lot flatter than it needs to be. This does want to lean heavily on the military being the villains and by the end of the movie, the talking holds back the big monster feel. We end up getting another one of the big blockbuster rip off that doesn’t live up to the hype it could have.

Final Thoughts – Ape vs. Mecha Ape is a flat mockbuster.
