Another Shot Dead in Gang War in Elakanda

Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle had opened fire killing one person at Elakanda in Wattala yesterday afternoon. The victim who was in a critical condition had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Ragama Hospital, police said.

According to the police, the deceased is a 23-year-old resident of Aliwatta, Mattakkuliya.Police SOCO officers had found several T56 bullets at the scene of crime. Police suspect that the shooting has taken place as a result of rivalry between two drug smuggling groups operating in Colombo.

The body is kept at the Ragama hospital for the autopsy. Several police groups under the supervision of SSP Kelaniya are conducting investigations into the incident. This is the sixth shooting carried out by unidentified gunmen in Colombo and other parts of the country since May 30.

The first shooting was reported at Bastian Mawatha in Pettah on May 30, the second and the third incidents at Aluthgama and Panadura on June 3, the fourth one from Ahangama on June 4 and the fifth incident from Tangalle on June 5. One individual was reported dead at each of these incidents. Police are investigating.
