When Annie Pelletier was just two years old, she made the decision to compete in the Olympics as a gymnast after seeing Nadia Comăneci win three gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics.

But by the time she was 13, she had been hurt so frequently that she decided to switch sports and start diving.

In Montreal, she joined CAMO Natation, and in 1991 she was selected for the Canadian national team. She earned silver in the 1m springboard at the 1993 Universiade, earning her first significant international medal.

She also won the 1m and 3m gold medals at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, the bronze medal at the World Championships, the 1m gold medal at the 1995 Pan American Games, and the 3m gold medal.

She was chosen to compete for Canada alongside Eryn Bulmer in the springboard event at the 1996 Summer Olympics, but she only just made it there after finishing 17th out of 18 qualifiers.

In the following round, where she was the last of the 12 qualifiers, she barely made it again. But after a string of incredible dives, she earned a podium position and a bronze medal.

She resigned immediately after the Games and has since worked as a television pundit and community volunteer in Quebec. She was a multiple-time Canadian champion in the 1m and 3m events. The Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame has inducted her.
