Recent updates, tell that the upcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are rumored to sport 90 Hz screens. This was a report that came one month ago. But now everything seems to be confirmed by a comment in Android 10 source code.
Therefore, the ever enterprising folks over XDA developers dug the source of newest android release. Google found that there are so many intriguing commits related to display fresh rate. Hence, one of these describes fps detection. Whereas the other one describes the implementation of an overlay. This will show when the device is running at 60 Hz vs 90 Hz.
But still, there is no proof that they are related to Pixel 4. Since Google constantly adds things in the AOSP code that accommodate the growing number of devices. However, a comment left behind in a commit has been removed and makes things quite clear.
Here what it's about. The code in the question helps in enabling and disabling of the flag to toggle at 90 Hz mode. It is only intended to be used temporarily until and unless that proper solution is found.
But through some more digging, it became clear that Google intends to expose the refresh rate as a Developer option. Therefore, Google also wants to detect when the video is playing so the pixel 4 can automatically adjust the refresh rate.
