I’ve been quite annoyed to miss out on all the delightful events linked to Adrian Teal’s brilliant The Gin Lane Gazette so I’m really pleased that there is one coming up at No 1 Royal Crescent in Bath, which is just up the road to me. Hurrah.
An Evening with the Gin Lane Gazette is being held on the 29th of November and promises to be ‘an enchanted evening of Georgian entertainment as we welcome caricaturist and author of The Gin Lane Gazette, Adrian Teal, and historian Hallie Rubenhold to take you back to an age of elegance and excess. Listen to 18th Century readings, meet with costumed Georgian characters and visit the Drawing Room for music from our Harpsichordist’
What could be more delightful? Of course, I’m liable to manifest at the merest mention of GIN but even without this, it sounds like a brilliant evening and it’ll be lovely to meet Adrian and Hallie (who wrote the wonderful Mistress of My Fate and Lady Worsley’s Whim: An Eighteenth-Century Tale of Sex, Scandal and Divorce) at last after pestering them on Twitter for so long.
It’ll also be nice to visit No. 1 Royal Crescent in the dusk as it really is a superb recreation of an eighteenth century mansion and was, allegedly, residence of Madame la Princesse de Lamballe during one of her sojourns in the west country.
