Spend a year in Amish country with four sweet romances: Rooted in Love (previously published in An Amish Garden), A Love for Irma Rose, Patchwork Perfect, and When Christmas Comes Again (previously published in An Amish Second Christmas).
This is one of those books that has four short story books within – a novella. Although when I agreed to review the book I didn’t have any idea that this was the case, because it was called An Amish Year, I knew my mom would love it. Once my mother finished the book, she provided me with the following review:
“I don’t really care for novellas and much prefer a full book with one story so I can fully come to know the characters and learn more about their lives. That being said, I found that this book provides the reader with inspirational and uplifting romances to enjoy as well as a reader’s group guide and recipes.
Story 1 – Rooted In Love: Rosemary Lantz is doing an excellent job of running her family’s household with the exception of one task; gardening. Saul Petersheim and Rosemary Lantz had dated when they were sixteen years old. Rosemary had broken up with him but Saul had pursued Rosemary for the past five years, but Rosemary keeps turning him down.
What Saul does not know is the Rosemary has a good reason to turn him down and it is something she cannot tell anyone, especially not him. I appreciated how Saul was so willing to serve Rosie and her family despite his physical and emotional pain.
Story 2 – A Love for Irma Rose: The year is 1957, and young Irma Rose has a choice to make. Irma Rose is now sixteen years old and is looking forward to dating for the first time. Now she must make a choice; Jonas who is on the wild and reckless side (and takes no for an answer) or Jake who she thinks is “right” for her.
Irma Rose choose Jake because she believes that God has planned this for her. Jonas shows Irma Rose that he is now serious and is ready to settle down. Will Irma Rose rethink her decision? Has she made the wrong choice?
Story 3 – Patchwork Perfect: Eli Byler a widower with two children moves to make a fresh start in Paradise, Pennsylvania. Eli’s children does not want their father to date. Eli is introduced to Elizabeth and Ruth two widow ladies and they show an interest in Eli. As Eli juggles the admiration of two women, he meets Miriam Fisher.
Eli does not think that Miriam fits the mold for what he is looking for as she is the most unconventional Amish woman he’s ever met. She does not cook, garden, nor keeps a clean house. Miriam has never been married and has no plans to get married—ever. Will Eli realize that Miriam Fisher is the one for him? Will he ever be happy?
Story 4 – When Christmas Comes Again: Widow Katherine and her four children must face their first Christmas without Elias. They got through Thanksgiving, but they know that Christmas will be harder. A mysterious English man is following Katherine and he has photographs of her late husband (Elias).
Who is this man and what does he want with Katherine and her children? Will there be blessings in their first Christmas?”
I truly appreciate that BookLookBloggers provided me with a paperback copy of this book for my mother to read without cost in exchange for my personal and honest opinion and unbiased review.
