Amreli Opens Its Doors to The City

Are you someone who would look for a place which has classic interior and Great Indian spread, that suits your palate -  you have the answer now. A new joint  - Amreli, has opened up, in place of A D Singh’s much talked about “Olive beach “.
Part al-fresco and part dining, this place has been completely revamped and is more of now, combination of high end dining place of London and French bistro.

Well, if a place is owned by a classy interior designer, you don’t expect less. And let me tell you this place will not let you down at all. Sidhant Lamba, an interior designer who is AID and RBS London alumni has put in his amazing efforts to make the place not just aesthetically good but a place that gives you an elegant and classy feel.  Divided into three sections, one section is dedicated for bar. Personal collection of wall paintings, Bright lightings, classy chairs, artfully mismatched sets of different table and chair – i.e every dining space has a different set of tables and chairs, Personalized and made on order crockery and cutlery.
After falling in love with the al-freso and dining area that gives you feeling of London’s upmarket dining place, the menu too is here to impress you. Menu has varied range – Western to American to Italian to Indian and coastal as well - Food is designed and developed by Chef Sabyasachi Gorai or Chef Saby as people call him affectionately. The menu is a combination of fancy as well as comfort food.
Coastal curries have strong flavor of kadi patta and coconut which takes time to reach to your palate. Chef Saby has worked with Olive in past and I am pretty sure this would have also been in his mind while creating the menu. Unfortunately neither chef Saby nor Sidhant were present to share their views. Personally, I preferred their all day breakfast and the main section that has variety of coastal curries.
We started with their Apple amaranth and beetroot salad served with rocket, candied walnuts and feta cheese and that was great way to start – fresh, light and flavorful. Egg Florentine with hollandaise (emulsion of egg yolk and liquid butter) tasted little watery, keema egg benedict lacked the texture. Flamed Chilli Chutney Paneer and Chargrilled Mushroom were excellent and chunky seekh kebab, served with coriander and mint chutney well complimented each other. Crispy fillo wrap raan was perfect flaky from outside and had well-cooked chunk of meat inside, Chipotle mayonnaise came with without the kick of chilli. Jalapenos and cheese naan were served with industrial mango chutney and it completely failed to impress me. It had no flavor of jalapenos, and also I was little surprised to see it as an appetizer.

For the main course we opted for Kerela vegetable curry, Sole meen moilee, Malabary prawn curry with Malabari paratha. Sole meen moilee, the famous Portuguese/kerela curry stole the show and was well complemented by, soft, flaky and hot malabar parota. Kerela vegetable curry and malabary prawn curry was good too, though we felt that prawns were little overcooked.
We finished our meal with crème brulee that was excellent and lemon cheese cake which was equally good.

Overall an excellent place to hang out with friends and family, especially now that winters are round the corner, this I am sure will be loved by people of Delhi.
