A few days ago, Trump tweeted that he would ban transgendered Americans from serving in the military. He said he had done that after conferring with military officials, but that was just another of his (too numerous to list) lies. Our military leaders were as surprised as everyone else when they read the tweet. They had not requested the ban, and did not want it.
Trump was just playing to the evangelicals in his base -- the people who want to hide behind the bible to discriminate against their fellow Americans. If Trump thought most Americans would like his silly ban, he was sadly mistaken.
It turns out that the American public does NOT support the ban -- and they disapprove of it by a large margin. About 68% of the public says transgendered people should be allowed to serve in the military, while only 27% agree with Trump -- a margin of 41 points! And that feeling includes both genders, all age groups, both Whites and Nonwhites, and even military households.
Once again, Trump is adopting a policy that is the opposite of what most Americans want.
The chart above uses information in a new Quinnipiac University Poll -- done between July 27th and August 1st of a random national sample of 1,125 voters, with a 3.4 point margin of error.
