For me, a sign of a good day is when I learn something new. It could be a skill, a fun fact, or very rarely, a new recipe. But without a doubt my favorite is when I learn of a new designer (or at least new to me). Thus I felt very accomplished when I stumbled upon the lovely Amelia Powers and her stunning handbags. Born from her work as vintage connoisseur, London-bred Amelia unveiled her first Amelia Powers collection this season to great avail. Every piece has an Old Hollywood quality to it, a fitting tribute as The Golden Age of Hollywood was the collection's inspiration. The pieces are made with a craftsmanship of old that is rarely seen in today's design landscape. I can just imagine Grace Kelly carrying the sumptuous VIP bag on her way home from a movie set... But far from being replicas, all of the pieces have an incredibly modern feel to them. Though it was hard for awhile to put my finger on the exact reason why, I think it's due to the perfect marriage of a subtle, yet intriguing color palette and classic shapes which draw attention to Amelia's haute couture-esque detailing beautifully. And, if the exquisite craftsmanship didn't win me over, then the names of the pieces certainly did. With monikers like Gatsby, Deco, and Bond, I'm immediately reminded of my favorite fashion eras: the Roaring 20s and the 007 1960s of London. I mean, you know a bag has to be a showstopper with a name like the Sting.
To top off this post, I would be remiss in leaving out the best part of these pieces. They are bespoke, hand-made to your specification, balanced with the Amelia's design aesthetic. She wants her customers to feel they have something special, something made just for them.
