Having gone to Bangkok a number of times, I have to say that the Pratunam area is my favorite I love how it’s always abuzz and how it’s merely a few minutes away by foot, motosai, BTS Skytrain, or taxi to the places I frequent. Recently, I stayed at the imposing Amari Watergate Bangkok, and let’s just say it wasn’t only the location that I loved. Read more…
Amari Watergate Bangkok is situated near the intersection of Petchaburi and Ratchadamri Roads in Pratunam, which is abuzz with people most times of day and is therefore easily accessible. The Rathchaprarop Station of Airport Rail Link is a short motosai (motorcycle) ride away, while the BTS Skytrain Chit Lom Station is within walking distance.
But the hotel location’s ultimate selling point is its proximity to the action. For starters, it’s just across Platinum Fashion Mall, which is the largest of its kind in Thailand, while its walking-distance neighbors are Palladium World Shopping Mall, Pantip IT Plaza, the Ratchaprasong Shopping District, and of course, the famous CentralWorld. The shopping area at Siam is also nearby.
Amari is one of the brands under the ONYX Hospitality Group, a renowned Thai company with hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, and spas scattered across Thailand, Vietnam, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Qatar. With 569 rooms and suites, Amari Watergate Bangkok is the brand’s flagship property, so our expectations were high.
We were ushered into the hotel’s lobby, and we were in awed by its grandness. A Thai front officer who was so charming was able to sort our reservation in no time. As I made my way to the elevator banks, I notice a charming touch—there was native Thai music playing.
With a full view of the city and the action in the hotel’s surroundings, a Grand Deluxe room was allocated to us. The room’s description goes:
A more refined experience within the Deluxe Room category, the Grand Deluxe rooms feature a 40” Sony Bravia LCD TV, DVD player and broadband internet. Your marble bathroom comes with a shower, separate bathtub and double vanity. The in-room tea and coffee-making facilities allow you to enjoy your favorite cup at any time of day, while looking out to a picturesque city view, pool view, or garden view from the higher floor.
We loved the room’s elegant Thai touches, how tasteful it looked overall. And the bed was totally exquisite; it was perfect after each tiring day going around the city.
We had breakfasts at Promenade, the hotel’s international buffet restaurant, where we were spoiled with an extensive spread of Thai, Asian, and Western items.
Aside from six restaurants and bars, the hotel boasts of a handful of facilities expected of a five-star hotel, including a ballroom, function rooms, Breeze Spa, the state-of-the-art FIT Center, and a beautifully-landscaped swimming pool.
Besides being centrally-located, there’s much to love about Amari Waterfront. Foremost is its being unmistakably Thai—from its rooms and food to the hospitality and the small little touches. We believe these makes it stand out from the rest and among the best in Bangkok.
