Farooq Sattar, the deputy convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has said that party chief Altaf Hussain cannot come to Pakistan due to some indispensable reasons.

While speaking to media representatives alongside other party members outside the building of Supreme Court before the hearing, Farooq Sattar said they have came to represent their leader and MQM has always respected the courts.

Faroorq Sattar said party’s legal team has requested the apex court to exempt MQM chief from personal appearance. He hoped that the whole matter will be resolved agreeably.

The Supreme Court last month had issued the contempt of court notice to Altaf Hussain, directing him to appear before court in person on January 7.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, issued the notice during the hearing of case pertaining to the implementation of recommendations given by apex court last year.

The MQM chief, in a telephonic address to the party workers from London, had regarded judges’ comments as “undemocratic” and “unconstitutional”, urging the President Asif Ali Zardari and federal government to take notice of the remarks.

Altaf Hussain had also demanded the constitutional action against the judges, who made the remarks.

During the hearing on December 14, Iftakhar Chaudhry had termed Altaf Hussain’s speech as contemptuous saying his speech was full of unnecessary allegations and unnecessary criticism and against the judges.
