Tomorrow I fly out to Geneva, heading for the French town of Chamonix, known not only for skiing but for climbing, mountaineering and mountain biking too. This adventure crazy town lies at the foot of the great Mt. Blanc, Western Europe's greatest mountain.
I'm heading there for my first Alpine climbing experience with two friends from university, hoping to tackle various routes in the area and maybe pop to the summit of Mt. Blanc. With my bags mostly packed, some new gear bought and a little nervousness I'm really looking forward to it - while I've done plenty of climbing before it will still be a great learning curve; possibly the next step towards climbing the technical peaks in the Himalayas or the Greater Ranges. Nine days in the Alps will also be a great way to celebrate the end of university and the start of a life (hopefully) of adventure and expeditions.
The trip will also be great training for my Iceland Expedition in July with Secret Compass - mentioned below the title at the top of the page. I'll let you know when I'm back and return to regular blogging! I'll be sure to take plenty of photos!
