Story: Alone in the Dark starts when paranormal investigator Edward Carnby (Slater) returns to the big city with his latest find. He turns to his old flame Aline (Reid) for help sourcing the artefact. Meanwhile, her boss Professor Hudgens (Walker) has also discovered artefacts from the same lost civilisations.
Edward finds himself being tracked by mysterious monsters that hunt in the dark. He must work with his former agency friend Commander Burke (Dorff) to stop whatever is happening. However, the threat has a bigger connection to Edward’s childhood and fellow orphans from the same orphanage.
Verdict on Alone in the Dark
Alone in the Dark is an action horror movie that is renowned for its poor quality. It takes a video game story of an unknown monster threat trying to get through to our own world. However, a group of specialists must fight back to solve the mystery and save the world.
For years this movie has been considered one of the worst ever made. However, I am here to defend it. While I am in no way going to call it a masterpiece, I do think it was more difficult than originally expected. The video game movies hadn’t really been figured out yet and we end up getting a dimension monster movie with plenty of jumps.
Sure, Uwe Boll’s decision to slap in scenes of just shooting in darkness to heavy rock music isn’t the best. The pure concept is interesting and leaves us with a mix of an archaeological dig and a monster movie. For an hour-and-a-half monster movie, this keeps the pace going relatively well throughout the movie.
Final Thoughts –Alone in the Dark is a typical late-night horror movie.
