Allergy News That Caught My Eye

By Dotchi Latham @DotchiLatham
I signed up for several email alerts related to allergies, anaphylaxis, and angioedema. I thought it would be nice to share some of those articles with you. Here are the alerts that caught my eye this week.

Mom of teen allergic to Axe (body spray) wants clean air

Oh, how I feel for this mom, and her son! I prefer doctors offices that are "scent-free" because I have trouble breathing near some perfumes.  Unfortunately, her son is unable to go to a public school because Axe body spray sends him into anaphylaxis. That poor kid.
Debate Rages over Schools Stocking EpiPens after Boy Dies
Why do we wait until someone dies? This is so sad. I am moving on to the happier news now. My tear ducts need a break!

Families with food allergies meet to avoid horrifying Halloween

With Halloween coming up, it isn't as much fun for kids with allergies. My kids are older but they are allergic to a lot. If they go to a party or anything like that, they will most likely be excluded from the food portion. We are having a Birthday party for my 14 year old (turning 15) and all foods are going to be allergy friendly. But we are highlighting the games portion of his birthday to make it more fun for those who can't eat what we serve. In exciting news!

Progress Toward Treatment for Dangerous Allergies

This is so exciting to me! Having spent a few evenings in the ER (A&E) for anaphylaxis and other allergic reactions, this actually makes me very excited! There is hope for those of us who have life-threatening allergies. I can't wait for the day when I don't have to fear turkey, peanuts, soy, heat, or citrus fruits. I will probably never eat them again, but it would nice to not be terrified of them.
