SJB MP Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says that whenever a country is in a crisis, politicians have a responsibility to put their personal opinions aside and work together for the people.
He said the current situation in the country demands such a commitment from the country’s politicians.
He said that the people of the country, which is currently in a crisis, are waiting for the moment when they will be able to get out of it and in such a situation, rather than dividing and criticizing, the political parties should work together for the people.
The MP was speaking to journalists yesterday after paying homage at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. He emphasized that he has always believed that everyone should come together and build the country when in crisis and that is why he left the party’s position aside and supported the government at a time when the flames of war flared up in the country.
He went on to say that no one can single-handedly recover the country from the current crisis and once everyone comes together and frees the country from the crisis, then politicians can once again engaged in party politics. He also said 55 percent of the voters in the country are currently not thinking about any party or candidate but were looking for ways to solve the issues they are facing.
