It's said that up to 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra, and I suspect I'm one of them. Since the arrival of the little man my bra size has been all over the place and has increased by at least four sizes. If I'm honest I have no idea what I'm looking for in a bra any more.
The lovely people are Bras Galore, a company selling Bras and Lingerie in a B to K Cup and swimwear in a D to J Cup recently answered a few questions I had about larger bra sizes -
What style of bra do you think is most flattering for a larger bust?
The most flattering type of bra depends not only on your size, but on the shape of your breast. For example, women whose boobs are fuller at the bottom will benefit from demi-cup bras, as full-coverage cups can gape at the top.
Are non-wired bras suitable for larger sizes?
A high-quality, well-fitting non-underwired bra should provide all the support you need, though you will notice a difference in shape. They’re great if you’re pregnant or nursing, have undergone surgery, or simply desire additional comfort.
Can you recommend a sports bra that is comfortable but also reduces movement?
We adore the Freya Active Moulded Underwired Sports Bra, which is available to a H cup. It gives great shape and support, and is the most comfortable sports bra we’ve ever tried.
There are strapless bras made especially for larger sizes, which are designed to stay firmly in place while providing all the support you need. The Freya Deco Strapless Bra, available to a GG, has secure rubber gripper elastic that keeps the underband from slipping, so you don’t have to constantly pull your bra up.
Can I accurately measure my bra size at home?
It’s very difficult to get the exact measurements you need at home, and without the proper knowledge of where the tape measure needs to go. We always recommend getting professionally measured.
How often should I get measured for a bra?
Our bodies change regularly, so you should try getting measured every 6 months. If your size changes, invest in new bras to ensure you have the support and comfort you need.
