All Clear! Life Is Good :)

By Gjosefsberg @gjosefsberg

This update is going to be a little short due to a life that has become increasingly busy over the past two weeks but normal posts should resume next week.

The Finger Update

First, that numb finger I told you about?  Turns out it’s most likely a pinched nerve.  Which brings me to a funny story.

I’ve been shaving my head for the past 13 years.  I do it because it’s an easy haircut to maintain and because I thought it looked good.  Julie thinks I look better with hair and so, three months ago, I grew out my hair.  About two months ago I started playing with my hair.

It’s a little thing I do with my left hand, especially while I’m doing something else, such as reading, working or talking.  I twirl a bit of my hair over and over and over and over.  So when my doctor asked me, “have you been doing anything with your hands that you don’t usually do”, I showed her my little nervous habit and she laughed.  Yes, the novelty of having hair again for the first time in 12 years caused me to give myself carpal tunnel syndrome

Anyway, my doctor took a quick look, prescribed some anti inflammatory medication, slapped my hand when I started playing with my hair while she was talking and told me to come back if the numbness doesn’t go away in two weeks.  She says the chances of this being something serious are pretty slim.

Bottom line, if you have any issues like these, stop stressing about them and go see a doctor.  It’s very likely to be something minor but do you really want to take the chance of something major going untreated?

Marathon Training Update

This is going great.  I am now up to 7 mile runs and my speed is increasing every day.  I got to tell you, I’m enjoying my runs a lot more than I expected. Sure, they’re hard and I sometimes get the urge to stop, but when you get in the groove, it feels awesome!

I found a friend who is also training for a marathon and we now exchange run results through email and SMS.  It’s a little competitive at times but I find this communication to be great motivation.

Weight Loss

A few too many family gatherings have put me behind where I wanted to be.  That’s ok, I’m still doing great and still on the Tim Ferris plan.

Speaking of which, I found a great app called Lose It! which I’m using to track my weight, calories, food and exercise.  It’s useful, even if you’re not a numbers junkie like me, and will help you see just how many calories there are in some of the junk you forego by not eating carbs.  Plus they can send you motivational reports, updates and there’s even a nice community to join.  (Note – I am not affiliated with the company behind Lose It! in any way, I just love their app).

Enjoy your week and I will see you here next week with a post about marathon training and those stupid barefoot running shoes that everyone seems to be talking about.
