All About Love #4 - The Vow

By A Happy Mum @A_Happy_Mum
Do you remember your wedding vows?
I think wedding vows are one of the most romantic and beautiful things in the world. It's at that moment when your heart stops, when you feel like you're in heaven, when rainbows and fairies surround you, when even if those things that he promises don't come true eventually, at least for now, you believe, you trust and you feel every word with 100% of your heart.
Jw and I decided to say our vows spontaneously at our ROM ceremony, given that we never got down to writing them. But then again, we never believe in planning and we think that whatever you say at that very moment, without any rehearsal or any paper in your hand, is what you truly feel deep down. Like how we gave our wedding speeches. We just said how we felt on the spot and it turned out touching, real and awesome. At least to us.
Alas we never got to say the vows because our JP told us there wouldn't be time for it and there wasn't a need. I half blamed the fact that we were outdoors under the scorching sun and thus he wanted to get it done soonest. Anyway, it probably stays as a regret in my heart to this day. But well, I've decided that we will probably say our vows to each other on our 10th wedding anniversary.
Yes you heard right, dear. 6 more years for you to think about it.

Anyway, in the last of my All about love write-ups, I wanted to share about this movie that we watched recently.

It's titled The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum.
Leo (Channing Tatum) and Paige (Rachel McAdams) were a young couple who fell head over heels in love and got married. Their love was put to a test when the two got into a car accident and Paige went into a coma. When she woke up, not only could she not remember Leo and thought that he was her doctor, but her memories of him and their lives together were erased from her mind. All she could remember was her family, her old friends and her ex-fiance who still loved her.
"I vow to fiercely love you, in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love. I vow to love you. And no matter what challenges might carry us apart, we will always find a way back to each other.”
What would you do if you were Leo?
Yes, of course, make your wife fall in love with you all over again. She did it once, she can do it again. But you know what, it's easier said than done. What if she starts to reject you, fear you, distant herself from you? Worse, she doesn't laugh at the same jokes, she doesn't sing the same songs, she doesn't eat the same food and to make things worse, she doesn't feel even a tinge of liking for you.
When is your breaking point?
Will you give up?

"I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness, and to have the patience that love demands. To speak when words are needed, and to share the silence when they're not. To agree to disagree on red velvet cake, and to live within the warmth of your heart and always call it home."
And what would you do if you were Paige?
Lost, confused, afraid. Will you go back to your old life with the people you thought you knew? Will you be willing to go back to the arms of your ex-fiance who seems to still have those feelings for you? Will you cry, will you feel, will you believe when you watch your wedding video and how you made your wedding vows? Will you give this man who calls himself your husband a chance?
Will you ever remember what it is like to be loved?
Will you ever love the way you did?

What is interesting is that this movie is actually based on the true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. The couple were involved in an accident leading Krickitt to suffer from amnesia and couldn’t remember the past 18 months of her life of which included Kim. The doctors asked her who was her husband and she responded by saying "I'm not married."
It was their faith that kept them together, let them start from the beginning once more, and today, they are happily in love, re-married and have two kids. And guess what? Krickitt never regained her memory.
Yes. It's the power of love.
I love to watch romance films so The Vow is probably my favorite movie so far this year. Well, nothing beats 50 First Dates, but this one captured my heart too. I love seeing those sweet, lovey-dovey moments between Paige and Leo, I love seeing how life takes you on a ride but gives you a second chance, I love hearing their wedding vows over and over again, I love that no matter what hurdles they have to overcome, the fact that love prevails and never gives up.
Because you just don't give up when you are madly in love with someone.
It's not just about finding true love, it's about joy, it's about hope - It's about being with the one who sticks with you for better or for worse, who loves you no matter who you may become, who lets you know what even if the world turns against you, it will be ok because he's always here, right beside you.

Here's the preview of the film, do go watch it if you are in the mood for love.
Happy Labour Day to everyone!
